Smart Swimming Goggles

If you are an avid diver then I am sure you will appreciate the concept of the Smart Swimming Goggles. This simple eye cover actually assists with communication between divers and capturing of memories in photo and video format. The Goggles include functions like built-in GPS, ‘call' button, 3-D Camera, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Specs:

The built-in GPS component shows the location of other divers.
A ‘call' button on the left side of the goggles allows you to call another diver, and the display shows the progress of the call.
A 3D camera on the top of the goggles allows you to take 3D photos of the scenes you see.
A ‘shot' button on the left of the goggles activates the camera.
The images can be sent via Bluetooth to a smartphone or smart TV.
An information display reveals details about the fish or plant life that you see. Other information necessary for safe underwater activities (such as oxygen level and current) is also shown.

Urban Green Zone

The area on this map, called Madla-Revheim, is the main developmental edge of Stavanger, Norway for which MVRDV and Space Group seek to implement 4000 housing units on the 780 acres site. The sector focuses housing, transportation systems and public spaces around a green center for cultivation and livestock raising. Situated at the point where urban meets rural, the area aims to be one of the first modern models for sustainable growth within metropolitan areas.

Sleeed Track Seating

Sleeed is a horizontal nesting chair, which is inspired by the sled. The design ensures that the chairs slide easily and stack compactly with no need for lifting. The legs of the chair are fashioned like the edge of a sled, just for the functional effect. The chairs can maximize one's floor space by stacking compactly. The chairs are sturdy and composed of polypropylene with glass fiber reinforcement, and can be produced in various colors. It is efficiently manufactured with a single injection molding process.

The Z Cool Fridge

The Z-Refrigerator is a refrigerator, which has the function of professional cook’s fridge and is the size of a double-door fridge. It is has the Z structure; when door is opened to the left, there is a large space, and to the right is a space where drinks and instant food can be stored. The fridge also saves energy by minimizing the amount of cold air escaping at once. I think I like it more for its funky design more than anything else!

Soundwhale surround sound provides multidirectional audio in the form of a whale passing through a wave while the Fishead focused speaker is a skeletal interpretation of the mouth of a fish where sound emanates. Moop The Mop

The Moop is a mopping system that not only helps clean up the room but also uses technology to its advantage. The electronic bucket has the capability of recycling the murky water, sanitizing it again for reuse. Although the designers have not explained the workings of this mop, but imagining a system where simple methods for recycling and reusing the water sounds like a good ‘green' idea.

The Mini Blender

As far as kitchen appliances go, we have seen very little action with the hand blender. Limited innovations mean a lot of scope for improvement; maybe this is why I fancy this Mini Hand Blender concept. It's an all-in-one deal that can be operated with one hand. The rechargeable unit can be turned on or off with the flick of the wrist. The Blender case, Blender, and mixing bowl are designed as a single unit so that the blades are kept hygienically stored and safe.

You Can’t Touch This!

Aptly put by the designers, the Lizard Umbrella sheds its handle as a defensive mechanism against thieves. What this means is that you get to take the umbrella handle with you, when it needs to be deposited in a public place, like a restaurant's umbrella stand. Without its handle, the umbrella appears to be broken and less desirable!

The tip of the umbrella stem is embossed with lines that slot only into the matching handle - much like how a key only fits into its corresponding lock. This prevents Lizard Umbrella users from mistaking someone else's umbrella or their own.

Great Balls of Rubber!

CYQL is a one-of-kind ottoman composed almost entirely of recycled bicycle inner tubes. Kinda like a rubber-band ball, each ottoman is wrapped in tubes of different sizes, textures, colors, and prints, giving each an individual character and unique history! The rubber itself is ideal for reusing not only because of it’s inability to disintegrate back into the environment, but because of its material qualities of being stain/water-proof, elastic, and patina over time.

Love this GIF-TY polaroid camera for capturing ‘movements’ and making them tangible. This unique camera allows you to print out short flipbook animations, so that you can physically keep the memories of precious moments alive in a fun way. GIF-TY’s Animations can be physically edited, and clipped on a separately designed module. Nametags can be attached to those clips just like old videotapes.

Technologically: GIF-TY is a combination of a burst-shot camera, and a ‘Zero-Ink’ Printer.

Puzzling Smartwatch Apps

These perplexing time apps were created for the much-raved about I’m Watch smartwatch, and transform the basic resting face of the device into the time-telling puzzle of your choice. No ticking hands, no big numbers… hit the jump to see if you can figure out each without reading how to decipher them!

Tritime – uses twelve color triangles to represent hours and twelve smaller triangles to represent 5 minute sections.

Timenine – hours are shown in big color numbers while minutes are displayed in 6 groups of 9 dots, each dot representing a single minute — after 10 minutes the group transforms into a single square — after 30 minutes a long rectangle is formed.

Timegrid – surprisingly fast, simple time reading is made possible by graphing hours in a rectangle that grows as time goes by — minutes are shown in the middle of the board grid

The Triangle of Life

Life Triangle is a life raft featuring a multi-directional triangular shape so that it doesn't capsize easily. Apparently the triangular structure prevents the raft from turning over, a fear often associated with smaller rafts. The boat involves automatic inflation and features a movable signal light containing GPS technology. Anything that keeps you safe on the high seas has my vote!

From keeping record of the sun’s rotations around the earth to the face of a clock, we have always used circles to track time…. but why are our calendars square?! The Round Method is an annual calendar that begs this very question. Its circular structure corresponds to the year more sensibly than conventional calendars and with its all-encompassing visual nature, its perfect for long-term goal setting. Planning with Round Calendar starts in the middle. The annual goals and resolutions can be written in the gray circle in the middle. This makes them visible at any time and they don´t get lost in daily business. The annual goals can then be divided in project phases and weekly goals by gradual detailing in the further segments. Finally, appointments, milestones or deadlines can be inserted exactly. The connection between higher-ranking goals and daily work is established and the overview, as well as the details are visible at any time. It facilitates reaching goals and being successful and is perfectly suited for staying focused on annual goals and resolutions. But like conventional calendars it also reminds you of your daily appointments or deadlines. The combination of both possibilities makes the Round Method a powerful tool.

Dressing Up The Floors

Solo Laundromat

For a better part it works on the water-less washing system by employing UV lights etc. I love it for its futuristic clean sweep style and ‘shirt-shower' function!

ZIPcycle

ZIPcycle is the next evolution of the bicycle, aerodynamically optimized for less exertion & higher cruising speeds. In short, the rider gets more output with less input! The position of the rider is streamlined & elements are enclosed with fairings to greatly reduce drag; so much so that about 40% less energy is required to maintain a cruising speed of 20MPH (double the average commuting speed). The ergonomic riding stance also reduces handlebar strain & seat pressure… all this & riders still get an open-air experience!

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

-Monocoque aluminum chassis;

-Linked steering mechanism, connecting the handlebar to the steering tube and front wheel fork (a mechanism found in underseat steering recumbent bicycles)

-Hub shifting in the rear wheel to accommodate the necessary gearing range

-Lubricated bearings, gears, and chains enclosed within the chassis in an internal driveshaft beam (so you will never again get grease on your clothes)

-Hollow tail-box, accessible by tilting the ventilated seat forward, spacious enough for a medium sized bag

Freedom To Draw, To Create, To Rest My Hand On The iPad

We are well aware that Adonit is set on making tools that help creative people stay creative, even on the go. With our increased dependency on tablets like the iPad and innovative apps, drawing and sketching on using technology is a natural extension of who we are now. The most versatile shower ever!

Two of my biggest pet peeves are being cold and wet after a hot shower and water dripping on the floor!! This ingenious device called the Air Shower solves both problems by instantly transforming from shower head to heat dryer after you’re finished rinsing off. Dry off your bod, stay warm, and keep water from collecting on the floor! What better tech company to tackle the solution than Dyson with their patented air taps? Do want!

The Elixir Fold

Elixir is a high-quality OLED desk lamp that can fold in three directions and be tucked down along the edge of a desk when not in use. A power outlet is conveniently positioned on its arm so that you can charge your phone or any other gadget using it. The design is space saving and effective. Moreover it is simplistic and maybe this is why I have a soft spot for it.

Elixir can be folded three ways (down, up, and over), it can be installed on any side of the desk using the clamp.
The arm can rotate up and down, right and left, and back and forth by 120 degrees.
The arm of the lamp features a touch-activated mood-light strip.

Deep Celestial Time

As we all know, Nadir is the deepest point on a celestial sphere directly beneath a surface position. It indicates the profoundest depth which lies below. Inspired by this concept, we have the Nadir watch, a timepiece that never strays from the symbolic “core” of time itself. Time is the Nadir; this unisex watch measures 40 mm in diameter has a unique way of telling the time.

The smallest hand is the hour hand, followed by the next longer hand or the minute hand and finally the longest hand which is the second hand.

Bolt Mining

Miners are under great risk when they undertake a procedure called bolting; a way of preventing rocks falling or ceiling collapse. The usual way is to use bolting rigs (bolting machines) that drill and screw in 3-meter long bolts in the mine tunnel. However while doing this, the miners also get exposed to unbolted (not reinforced) ceilings while executing manual tasks. The Boltec .04 is a bolting rig that adds an extra protection.

The vehicle works as a second helmet by letting the user accomplish all manual tasks that the bolting procedure requires protected by the rig and its steel cage construction. Theoretically, the miner will not have to be exposed to an un-reinforced mine ceiling ever again.

The flexible bolting arm folds down on the vehicle reducing the size by half compared to existing bolting machines, improving both flexibility in transport and reducing risks of collision while tramming to the site.

Phased By The Moon

Inspired by the moon, the Lunaround watch features the "luna" or moon shaped hour hand that rotates one complete cycle every 12 hours. Measuring a comfortable 40 mm in diameter, the watch also hosts a red minutes and second hands. It is kinda fascinating to observe how within the center of the moon (hour hand), the hour digits can be seen moving. Awesome ‘moon' sighting on the wrist!

The Lunaround Watch is gray and black and accented with red hands, ideal for both day or evening wear.

Destroying Time

The Digital Destruction Watch is a good analogy for how old has to make way for the new. The watch features a face where the analog dial seems to have been destroyed by the elements and made way for the digital era. Measuring a nifty 38 mm in diameter, the timepiece is good for both men and women. Specs include a digital LCD screen, time in a military style 24 hour format, a crown button that switches between time, second, and date modes, as well as activate the backlight.

Options available: Black IP stainless steel on Black leather band, Brushed stainless steel on Black leather band and Brass colored stainless steel on Brown leather band.

Micro Taxi

With the footprint of our personal vehicles shrinking, it’s likely that taxi designs will quickly follow suit. With consideration to the fact that taxis generally carry just 1 or 2 passengers at a time, the Ago Taxi eliminates that useless front passenger seat, positioning the driver in the center and passengers in jump seats closer to the front. Saving all that space inside means the overall size of the exterior can also be made smaller. It’s sensible styling at its best.

+4.5 Paper Cup by Hongseok Kim and Inhye Hwang

Yes, this is the exact name of this disposable cup and don't ask me why! All I can tell you is that the cup handle has a stiff tear-able portion that you can use as a stirrer. Cost effective and functional, I simply LOVE this design!

p.s. a little birdie told me that the additional handle attachment measures 4.5 cms, hence the name!

A Different Kind of Desk Lamp

Custom Color Thread

I hate sewing but if you are the sorts who likes to mend their own clothes then the Line Printer is meant for you. This small device allows the color of sewing-machine thread to be customized to the color of the cloth being worked upon. You may not have the exact color and re-threading the machine is always a hassle; with the Line Printer you get to ‘print' thread with color on demand.

A small built-in camera is used to photograph the fabric, and then color-picking software determines the ideal shade for the thread. Small CMKY ink cartridges are contained within Line Printer, and system is calibrated to print on white thread. Line Printer sits on the top of the sewing machine and the thread is fed through it directly off the spool.

Line Printer is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.
