Radhicka S Saxena:

The beautiful floral shaped lamp is absolutely an eye candy. The splashes of muted tones on its shade look fashionable yet earthy. The umbrella shaped awning holds cool tints like sea green and watery blue. The gorgeous piece is a creation of two Eindhoven based designers, Mike Thompson and Gionata Gatto. The stunning piece was displayed at the exhibition Spazio Rossana Orlandi organized at Milan design Week 2012.

The solar powered piece is a self sufficient lighting unit. It collects solar energy during the day and then oozes light at night. Its shape is really thoughtful and practical. Moreover, the piece has been constructed using polyurethane rubber. The new design allows for a greater control over the photoluminescent pigments and also enhances their concentration. The designs available in this collection have been dubbed as “Trace” series.

The working of the lamp is brilliant. Just charge the piece for roughly 30 minutes and it will provide light for several hours. The smaller lamps called “trace S” work on a combination of electric and solar power. The larger variation dubbed as “trace M” is even more proficient and can replace the light bulb. After soaking in sunlight, this lamp radiates an ambient glow. The lamp has a larger surface area that is used to charge it up.
