Senior Industrial Designer

Kärcher North America, Inc. is an award-winning innovator in the commercial and residential cleaning industry. This position is located in Camas, Washington, a suburb of Portland, Oregon. Kärcher North America is a subsidiary of Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. of Winnenden, Germany, a world class leader in consumer and residential cleaning equipment manufacturing. We are currently seeking a self-motivated, creative and innovative Industrial Design professional to join our team.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Denver-based Director of Industrial Design, responsibilities include:

• Designing appropriately styled and well-functioning products
• Creating and communicating new innovative customer-driven concepts for the commercial and residential cleaning industry aligned wit the product strategy and brand positioning
• Participating on cross-functional product development teams, interfacing with engineering, marketing, operations, and customers.
• Demonstrating a proactive hands-on approach, utilizing a variety of techniques to solve problems and validate ideas.
• Managing all aspects of the industrial design process, such as, but no limited to, assessing customer requirements, prototyping, and creating 2D/3D CAD models with continuous involvement through to product launch.

This position will require travel inside US and to one of our manufacturing locations in Mexico. Initially this position may require spending extended time in Denver.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design with 5-7 years of Industrial Design (product design) experience
• A strong motivation to proactively explore and initiate ideas and concepts
• A track record of creating breakthrough innovation
• Requires a strong background in product development
• Good visual and conceptual skills required
• Ability to demonstrate a proactive hands-on approach, and to utilize a variety of team and individual techniques to solve problems and validate ideas
• Experienced in design research methodology and critical thinking processes
• Ability to brainstorm creatively and articulate ideas
• Hands-on mock-up and quick prototyping skills
• A solid mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing processes including metal and plastic materials
• Ergonomics expertise and experience designing products involving customer/user interaction
• Attention to detail and thoroughness of approach
• 2D and 3D CAD experience
