M3 Design is a 45 person product development company based in Austin, Texas. We seek a Design Strategist to join our team who is strong at leading clients through the “fuzzy front end” of product development through Design Strategy and guiding them to compelling solutions through Industrial Design. The successful candidate will have a unique blend of skills, combining strengths in Design Strategy, Design Research, and hands on Industrial Design skills.

Responsibilities
•Design Strategists will work closely with M3’s Industrial Design and Engineering teams to plan, lead and execute Design Strategy and product development projects and must show strong leadership, personal initiative, and accountability while embracing a collaborative approach to design that harnesses the power of teamwork.
•The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to utilize innovative Design Strategy processes and tools; leveraging their experience and seeking out and creating new methods that support our clients’ business goals.
•Design Research capability must include, but is not limited to: leading project teams through the user research phase, leading innovation workshops with key stakeholders, brainstorming with Industrial Design and Engineering team members, creating test plans, setting up recruitment for Design Research activities, performing ethnographic and participatory user research, running studies, analyzing, synthesizing, and articulating the results to feed the conceptualization and development portions of projects, and communicating the process and findings to clients.
•Strategists must be prepared to present M3’s capabilities to clients as well as to write the Strategy/ Industrial Design portion of proposals, whitepapers, brief articles, case studies or blogs.
•Project management capabilities including setting process, leading multidisciplinary teams, and managing schedule and budget.

Specific Skills

Required Qualifications
•6 years plus experience at an established design firm
•Successful history of uncovering valuable insights and translating them to actionable strategy with business impact.
•Skilled in the use of proven qualitative and quantitative Design Research techniques to create business value; including ethnographic, behavioral, participatory methods and ergonomic/human factors methods.
•Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design
•Strong portfolio demonstrating Industrial Design and Design Strategy abilities.
•Ability to present credibly to clients and communicate externally and internally.
•Strong graphic visualization ability (to present analysis) and writing ability
•Design Strategy and Product Development planning and execution
