Description from the architects

The house is located in the Historic District of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  The site is located approximately 1/2 mile from the main street of Chapel Hill [Franklin Street] and the campus of the University of North Carolina.

The 1.5 acre site is surrounded by woods and slopes from east to west. Access to the site is via an easement through an adjoining property.

Originally the site was part of the Coker Estate.  Dr Coker was an avid amateur botanist and responsible for bringing to Chapel Hill much of its distinctive plant material.  Much of the property was used for his experiments.  The site is in the historic district of Chapel Hill.  Its historic significance derives from the property as a fragment of Coker Estate and its proximity to some of the older homes in Chapel Hill.
